One of the things that I managed to squeeze in at the beginning of the planting season was to attend my fiftieth graduation Class Reunion at the University of Idaho. I'm a little late in talking about it, but now that the rush of spring planting is over (we planted 4000 acres of grain this year) I have regained control of my life and have time to catch up on my blogging.
When I signed up to go way back in February of this year, my wife and I were in the planning stages of setting up a writing contest for the best family history of the year. The class reunion was the additional push I needed to fix a date and make the ten hour drive to Moscow, Idaho where I had spent seven of the best years of my life. No, I wasn't a professional student. After graduating with a B.S. degree, I came back eight years later for three more years and earned two more degrees; a master of science in agriculture and an MBA. I won't bore you with the details of the reunion except to say we had a really good time and that the induction into the "Golden I Club" was the highlight of the planned activities. Also, several of my classmates bought The Soul of the Land and We, The Shamans which was a pleasant surprise.
The real success of the trip took place when my wife and I met with one of the individuals that is currently a judge for the Pacific Northwest Booksellers Assn. She expressed great interest in being one of our judges for Shaman Writer's Contest. And, she also had some really good suggestions for inclusion in the contest rules and regulations. We are still on track for publishing them by mid-summer.
